Who cares for a writer?
Who cares for a writer?
Hungry and sick
Needy and wanting
Yet penniless to the hilt
Who cares for a writer?
Whose emotions whirl
like a sick, old man in tantrum
throwing insults in the air
Who cares for a writer?
Whose gentle heart is robbed dry
By life's injustices and cruelties
Anathematizing his old soul.
Who cares for a writer?
Humble and meek
Nothing to be proud of
Except his whisperings to the page.
Who cares for a writer?
Whose poverty is seen
Yet whose heart remains invisible
To the persecuting eyes of folks.
Who cares for a writer?
When he dies nobody can pay his loans
His children couldn't eat his books
Whose hungry stomachs the pages overlook
Who cares for a writer?
When he perishes
His words may be forgotten
For these days nobody reads the written word.
